Yesterday was a bumper 5 chart day, with 5 different number 1s, all of which you'd expect to be jostling for space at the top end of the final chart. Our first chart comes from Niall (Diagrid), who had this to say about his Manics story:
The Manics have always been my band, the first band I got into and fell in love with on my own. It was just before my 9th birthday when my now brother in law was talking to me about music and he happened to mention Richey's recent disappearance. I was intrigued. He played Motorcycle Emptiness and I then begged my parents to buy me the albums for my birthday (incidentally, my birthday happens to be the same day as JDB's). It was love at first listen and from then on I was hooked. EMG came out when I was 10 and getting it on release day is possibly the most excited I've ever been for anything.
The second chart from Keenomanjaro sees Yes grab its first 50 points at the top of the charts, with a few other songs also getting off the mark with their first pick full stop this time. All eras are present and correct and This Joke Sport Severed manages to pick up its highest placing so far in 4th.
Next up we have James, still reeling from being mistaken for my brother in Cardiff. Faster grabs another top spot, while The Holy Bible appears in its entirety, Intense Humming Of Evil and all. And yet another chart where each era has representation from at least one song, that's the thing with Manics fans, we don't like to leave any album feeling unloved.
The Gutless Wonder follows next, rather appropriately having Tolerate in the top spot. The Holy Bible again features more than any other era, with the first six albums taking the majority of the places, but there's still room for three from The Ultra Vivid Lament. A Vision Of Dead Desire, Masking Tape and Close My Eyes all pick up their first points from this set of charts.
Finally we have Kurt, giving PCP its first number 1 this time around and a top 10 mostly made up of songs that don't often reach those dizzy heights. Us Against You takes second place, personally I've always had that in first place if there was ever a chart of JDB's most indecipherable performances! Every era represented here again, with another five song haul for TUVL too. Although I'm noticing a lot of TUVL appearances are creeping into the lower reaches of charts as they gradually seep into our brains, will that be enough for one of them to amass enough points to make the final 50? We shall see....
