Manics Top 50s - 22nd Nov 2021

It was a five chart day yesterday so I'll keep the comments relatively brief to save the blog running on forever.  We start off with A Design For Life taking another number 1 and a lot of different eras scoring relatively highly, Holy Bible and Everything Must Go each having six entries, while This Is My Truth, Lifeblood and Journal all have five each.

Our second chart is another nicely presented entry, but despite the Journal backdrop it's No Surface All Feeling that takes the number 1 slot and Holy Bible that takes the honours in the By Era chart.  Blank Diary Entry and Auto-Intoxication are a couple of album tracks with less than a handful of entries so far that manage to get a few more points on the board here.

As well as providing us with a few comments inserted against chosen tracks and giving You Love Us another 50 points, Steve has also helped out three of the no-vote songs get off the mark - Fear Of Motion, The Instrumental and All Alone Here all featuring for the first time.

Steven Drake @sdrake767
1. You Love Us
Hours of guitar practice learning the solos and always a high point of every gig, my love is made even stronger by a live version from the early 90s that turns in to a fight
2. A Design For Life
3. If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next
4. Fear Of Motion
Probably unusual to have this little song so high up but I love the cheap, throwaway nature of it. A real personal choice dating back to rummaging in the loft for my parents record player and represents the start of my desire to collect every Manics song (at that point I only owned EMG, KYE and TIMTTMY)
5. Ready For Drowning
Assisted by the DVD extra on the Millennium Stadium DVD and John Cale duet
6. No Surface All Feeling
7. Archives Of Pain
8. Kevin Carter
Possibly unusual to be this high up but the song that got me in to the band in guitar lessons in the late 90s
9. International Blue
10. The Masses Against The Classes
The excitement of listening to Radio 1 to hear it announced as number 1
11. You Stole The Sun From My Heart
12. Found That Soul
13. Show Me The Wonder
14. 1985
Should have been the first single....
15. Roses In The Hospital
16. Vision Blurred
Similar to Fear of Motion, this just sounds like a band doing what they want, and I love that
17. Sepia
18. Be Natural
19. Australia
20. From Despair To Where
21. Montana/Autumn/78
22. Everything Must Go
23. Intravenous Agnostic
24. Judge Yr'self
25. Comfort Comes
26. Vivian
27. All Alone Here
28. The Instrumental
29. Tsunami
30. This Joke Sport Severed
31. Masking Tape
32. Locust Valley
33. Automatik Teknicolour
34. The Long Goodbye
35. Heyday Of The Blood
36. 3 Ways To See Despair
37. Dreaming A City (Hughesovka)
38. Europa Geht Durch Mich
39. Peeled Apples
40. Afterending
41. The Last Time I Saw Paris
The mystery of who the female voice is adds to the appeal
42. Send Away The Tigers
43. Faster
44. To Repel Ghosts
45. Rewind The Film
46. Motorcycle Emptiness
Perhaps lower than most people, I've never really loved it
47. Sleepflower
48. Some Kind Of Nothingness
49. Complicated Illusions
50. The Ghost Of Christmas
Always a pleasure having this as the first Christmas song I play in December

Last but not least is Jack who kindly got a chart together amidst mounting college work, hopefully his grades won't suffer as a result!  As with the first chart in this batch, it's A Design For Life that triumphs and Everything Must Go takes a clean sweep by having the most entries By Era too.  Jack admitted The Ultra Vivid Lament has yet to get much airplay, so you never know next time that could have a chance at featuring.
